Here it is January 17th, 2014 and I am still writing 2013 on my checks - The Holidays have passed, the decorations put away, the thank you notes written and it's time to focus on the new year, new day - new moments.

Many people are beginning to dream of spring.  Little flowers poking their dainty buds up through the semi frozen ground, raindrops swimming down the window pain, the smell of fresh mowed grass, swimsuits and water balloons.  Me?  I am still here, arms wide open, waiting to welcome a little more winter into my heart!  Cozy fires, snowflakes gently gracing the lawn and big cozy blankets.  

In this moment, I dream.

Summer Reading and Reading and Reading

We are knee deep in summer and hopefully the pages are flying while we grownups and our kiddos continue to read, even though school is out.

Did you know the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends reading to your children all the way through age 12?  That was a surprise for me!  While, we are a family who loves to read, I haven't read to my oldest in a long time.

Shame on me?  Maybe not.  Every child is different.

We do however share a good picture book from time to time - so why not surprise SOMEBODY special in your family - no matter their age with a new picture book for a lazy summer day?

Pick up a copy of Somebody, send it to a friend, read it to a neighbor...then come back and let me know how you are enjoying your summer reads!

Ringing in the new year

Happy New Year to all of our old friends and new, the end of 2011 was very exciting with the debut of the books and the feedback received as they hit the shelves.  2012 offers the chance to do new things, meet new people and perhaps touch a life in the process.

In mid December I received an email from a 9 year girl that I will likely never forget:

"Hello you might not remember me,but I met you at that flower arty shop.

I thought you're book Somebody was a great thing to write for kids.

It really connects with how mothers ,and fathers , and even kids like me talk

You are very right how people say can somebody do this ,and somebody do that.
